Adding movies to PowerPoint
International Herald Tribune – Jun 12, 2008
The movie is in the QuickTime format which doesn't work with my version of PowerPoint for Windows. Is there a way to make this work? Microsoft's PowerPoint for Windows does not play nicely with most versions of Apple's QuickTime multimedia software but there are at least a couple of ways to get your camera's movie clip working in your PowerPoint presentation. One way is to convert the QuickTime clip into a format like AVI that works with the Windows version of PowerPoint. While QuickTime Pro can do this for you upgrading from the free QuickTime Player to the more full-featured edition of the software costs $30. A Web search for “quicktime to avi” or “… When you are displaying your presentation you can click the link to fire up the clip in the free Windows QuickTime Player. You can find Microsoft's instructions on creating hyperlinks in PowerPoint at snipurl. If you don't have the free QuickTime Player for Windows you can get it at www.

IWork and Office: Can They Work Together?
PC World – Jun 12, 2008
Office 2008 users have the same problem as iWork users: Office 2008 for Mac does not support macros. This is one reason why some Mac users are not upgrading from Office 2004. Microsoft seems to have noticed this and has. Word to Pages Many of Word’s features translate well into Pages ’08… Numbers will translate these as unhidden but empty cells. The only way to retain the information in these cells is to have the creator of the Excel document remove the password protection. PowerPoint to Keynote Slide presentations are tricky to move around between Mac and Windows versions of PowerPoint. So it should be no surprise that you’d lose some of a PowerPoint slideshow when importing it into Keynote. But slide show compatibility problems aren’t consistent and can really hamper your ability to view the presentation. Multimedia and slide transitions and builds are a main area of compatibility problems. For embedded movies and audio QuickTime is the best bet for importing into Keynote and being able to play.
ISO puts brakes on Microsoft OOXML format
CIOL – Jun 12, 2008
ISO approved OOXML as a standard in May. But it had given participating countries two months to appeal against its decision to make OOXML an international standard. OOXML is used in Microsoft Office 2007 for sharing Word Excel and PowerPoint file information. Internationally the OOXML format is backed by Apple and Novell. In India Wipro Infosys TCS and Nasscom are supporting it. The rival standard Open Document Format (ODF) is supported by Google IBM Sun Microsystems Red Hat etc. ODF is used in Sun Microsystems’ OpenOffice.
