While FileMaker Pro can do many of these same things it can’t share databases with Windows users unless they have FileMaker Pro for Windows installed. (Note that utlook and Access aren’t available in all version of ffice 2007. )Microsoft Access serves as both an easy-to-use database for nonprogrammers and a high-end tool for professionals designing databases that interact with Web servers and company systems. Missing Mac featuresSome ffice programs have Windows-only features. The Windows version of Word for instance includes a useful version-comparison tool. It also lets you mark a document as Final before distributing it–a simple way to let readers know the document is done. Excel 2007 sports better conditional formatting than its Mac counterpart… Calculated columns automatically fill as you add rows to your worksheet. The pivot-table tools in Excel 2007 are miles beyond what’s available on the Mac. Finally the Windows version of PowerPoint has some nice features you won’t get on the Mac. You can create a slide library (on a SharePoint Server) for slides you use often–the slides are linked to the library so if you change the master all the presentations with that slide will update. The Windows version also offers transitions and animations you won’t find on the Mac side. Missing macrosAll that said the most significant difference between the Mac and Windows versions of ffice is the latter’s continued support for Visual Basic. ffice Professional 2007 supports Visual Basic macros (in Word and Excel) while ffice 2008 for the Mac does not.

CNTENT>If I try to install my old copy of ffice XP in Windows Vista will I run into any prohibitions or technical problems?. However multiple readers have told me they've had no issues running ffice XP in Vista. Installing it may be trickier. ffice XP's “product activation” feature intended to stop people from using ffice without paying will notice when your copy has been put on a new machine and ask you to reactivate it. Call the phone number listed on the screen… Downloading and installing it will enable ffice 2000 XP and 2003 to read and write the 2007 formats. ffice 2007 users can avoid compatibility problems by telling ffice to stick with the older formats. In Word Excel and PowerPoint click the round ffice button at the top-left corner of the window then click the ptions button in the drop-down menu that will appear. Now click the Save category at the left of the ptions window. In the Save Files in This Format menu choose the previous format for each program: “Word 97-2003 Document (. doc)” “Excel 97-2003 Workbook” and “PowerPoint Presentation 97-2003. ”After my laptop was stolen I was fortunate enough to get it back.

Legend has it that after the Titans did battle on earth they brought their war up to the stars. The war that began down here between Google and Microsoft – in the form of their earth 3D virtualization programs – has now spread to the skies. Microsoft also has an earth virtualization scheme called Virtual Earth… You can view panoramas of the sky or the planets taken by spacecraft that have flown there such as panoramic views of Mars taken by the Rover as well as collections of images taken from some of the most famous observatories and planetariums in the world. And using the ASCM (AStronomy Common bject Model) driver you can attach supported hardware – like telescopes – to your computer and record your own images which you can add to WWT and integrate into your virtual universe. You can build your own “guided tours” of the universe (similar to building a Powerpoint presentation). WWT even has an earth component offering many of the views available in MS Virtual Earth (although it uses a different engine). WWT sounds wonderful and it is. But (there’s always one of those): Wimpy computers need not apply. This is an application designed with the Vista Age in mind.
