ffice exploit hits the street
InfoWorld – Mar 31, 2008
“The payload is designed to execute the ‘calc. exe’ calculator program on Windows however it will not be difficult to modify this exploit to add a malicious payload. According to Roe the rigged PowerPoint file triggers the “Microsoft ffice File Memory Corruption Vulnerability” one of two vulnerabilities addressed by MS08-016. Microsoft said earlier this month that the flaw rated a “critical” label for users of ffice 2000 and “important” for ffice XP and ffice 2003 on Windows machines and ffice 2004 for Mac. However the company acknowledged that if successful an attack against any of the four versions could result in the attacker wresting control of the machine from its rightful owner. Microsoft spelled out two possible attack vectors: enticing users to a malicious Web site that hosts a specially rigged file or feeding users malformed files as e-mail attachments. “Customers are strongly advised to install the patches from the bulletin MS08-016 if they are not installed already especially considering the availability of this exploit” said Roe.

Verizon XV6800 Review
Brighthand – Mar 31, 2008
1 but it’s possible Verizon will release a system software upgrade. But it hardly needs a new version of the operating system to be useful. The standard suite of Windows Mobile software provides the tools you need to do a wide variety of tasks: access the Web work with Microsoft ffice documents (Word Excel and PowerPoint) exchange email messages watch movies listen to music and on and on. Running on the 400 MHz Qualcomm MSM7500 the XV6800 is quite snappy with more than adequate performance for music games or most video. It tests out to a respectable 1. 3 megaflops of performance and will handle things like Slingplayer Mobile in good fashion. The Verizon device doesn’t yet implement the same software improvements recently made on the Sprint version meaning that XV6800 users still don’t have access to the device’s EV-D Revision A capabilities and internal GPS receiver.
