25 Days That Changed Everything
Washington Post – Jan 25, 2008
But when Intel bumped up the processing power of its CPUs from 16 bits to 32 bits–a standard that still dominates today–Compaq surprised Big Blue by beating it to market witha competitively priced ($6499!) computercarrying Intel’s new 386 chip. Suddenly IBM could no longer set the pace–or the price–for PCs. August 1 1989 Few folks remember that. The Windows version came a year later and many experts now view ffice–not Windows–as… August 1 1989 Few folks remember that. Help Help It’s Tax Season and I’m Being Upgraded!

ThanksRhonda in Rockwood Dear Rhonda in Rockwood:Good to hear from you again. I hope you and your team are well. The biggest issue with adopting MS ffice 2007 on short notice is going to be MS Access (as usual – just because there is so much structure created by the user in this application). I’d stay away from Access 2K7 if you’re doing much with Access simply because it has a new file format and because of the nature of the automation in Access it will be the application most likely to have “issues” with a new file format. If you’re really concerned about it considered uninstalling the EM edition of MS 2K7 and installing 2K3 from your MS Action Pack (assuming you have enough licenses?) This would let you completely avoid the issue until after tax season. If you decide to go with 2K7 it shouldn’t be that big of an issue. With a few add-ins you should actually be able to get by with half on the old version and half on the new version… Install the “Save as PDF or XPS” extensions for 2K7 on the “new” PC’s with ffice 2007. This will let them save the Word Excel and Powerpoint files as Acrobat files (e. Free from Microsoft.

BlackBerry servers gain new user administrator features
ARNnet – Jan 25, 2008
Finally RIM has added several security enhancements including viewing attachments encrypted with PGP or Secure Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions; controlling the use of GPS on the handset; and turning on and off specific Bluetooth profiles such as allowing headsets or disallowing file transfers. With this release RIM now lets BlackBerry users download e-mail attachments in their original native format (and lets administrators prohibit the downloading of such files or limit their size). Because the DataViz Documents to Go application is integrated in this release users can view and edit Microsoft ffice Word and PowerPoint files on the handheld. The new features in BES 4. 5 will be phased in as part of the core platform during the first half of 2008. There is no change in Blackberry pricing and for many existing customers the new software will be covered by existing software maintenance contracts.
New computers at all county libraries
Glenwood Springs Post Independent – Jan 25, 2008
At that point the library’s new time management software takes over and assigns reservations for computers as they become available. This new system will reduce wait times and provide problem-free printing and Internet access for library patrons. Each machine offers access to Microsoft 2007 with Word Excel PowerPoint and Publisher as well as Internet Explorer and Firefox web browsers. All computers have a built-in CD burner and a DVD player as well as ports for USB devices and a standard disc drive. With this installation Garfield County Libraries has added new software called PC Reservation that allows for computer reservations during busy periods. PC Reservation tracks a user’s time and limits sessions to 30 minutes. Although computer sessions last 30 minutes a user can automatically extend the time as long as no one is waiting.
