Nonetheless Microsoft Direct Push works really well making all your e-mails contacts and appointments appear on the handset when you have t parnered with an Exchange Server. But if you don’t no reason to dispair because utlook Mobile supports PP3 and IMAP – great if you have all your e-mails going to GMAIL now for example. Also part of the “mobile office” is ffice Mobile (no pun intended) with programs that support documents created with Microsoft Word Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint. Again it’s a shame that it’s not running Windows Mobile 6 because the newer version supports many more features – including an upcoming upgrade with the new DCX format for example. The built-in 2 megapixel digital camera is surprisingly good and with a flash. The camera application uses the full screen as a viewfinder and all the options can be accessed from there.

In addition glitches in broadband service especially in remote areas that depend on satellite service are common enough that the likelihood of even temporary loss of access to a word processor or spreadsheet can make many of us a bit nervous. The operating backbone of the Pantech Duo is Windows Mobile 6 which provides users with the familiar look and feel of their desktop computers at home or in the office. Included in the Duo is ffice Mobile so people can view PowerPoint presentations as well as view and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents. Windows Mobile 6 also delivers the ability to view email messages in their original rich HTML format with live links to Web sites and Microsoft ffice SharePoint sites which means that text and images are displayed as they would be on a Windows PC. The Duo and all Windows Mobile 6 devices include Microsoft’s Direct Push Technology for up-to-date email delivery and automatic synchronization of utlook calendars tasks and contacts through Microsoft Exchange Server. The Duo also will support System Center Mobile Device Manager the comprehensive enterprise-grade mobile management security and access server at around the time Mobile Device Manager is available in the second quarter of 2008. The product was announced last week by Microsoft at CTIA Wireless I.

You’re using Microsoft Live Communication Server and ffice Communicator 2005 client which includes instant messaging. What other collaboration-related features are you using from that suite? We were certainly after the robust presence features. And presence in the Microsoft context permeates the e-mail client which is utlook and the ffice applications like Word and Excel and PowerPoint. [P&G is using ffice 2003 globally and is making ffice 2007 available. ] E-mail is a huge business tool at Procter & Gamble. I would describe us as being very e-mail-centric but evolving more towards other types of collaborative and more real-time tools. There is also the group or team software encapsulated in SharePoint Server 2007 from Microsoft.
