Microsoft previews ffice 2008 for Mac

Microsoft has recently faced stiff competition from Google’sfree online office suite and the software giant will be hopingthat its latest version of ffice will stop more from jumpingship. Microsoft ffice 2008 “standard” includes Word ExcelPowerPoint and the Entourage email program. The Home and Student Edition will be slimmer and lackingExchange email server connectivity. A “souped-up” version called Special Media Edition includes afull version of Microsoft Expression Media for Mac to help usersorganise and archive digital media files. The US versions have been priced at $US170 for Home and Student$US460 for standard and $US570 for Media Edition. There iscurrently no price list for Australian customers.

Microsoft ffice for Mac in 3 prices Microsoft Corp. said it will release three versions of its ffice 2008 for Mac suite in January with the most expensive of the bunch aimed at creative professionals overwhelmed by the task of organizing their digital media files. A $400 version aimed at professionals who use Apple Inc. computers simply called ffice 2008 for Mac includes the same programs as Home and Student plus the ability to connect to a Windows Exchange server. Its founder Sabeer Bhatia claims InstaCall is “deconstructing Microsoft ffice one application at a time. InstaCall is actually a live document sharing solution that can create a Flash-based application that looks just like any Microsoft ffice app. It starts with the idea of sharing and managing docs by installing a tool bar in Word Excel or PowerPoint. Users click on the file which makes it a shared document. When a user receives a copy of the document any changes made are immediately synchronized on the server. When the originator opens the the document they will see the updated version. From the tool bar discussion and chats can be added around the document.
