Sun Plug-in Brings DF Support to Microsoft ffice

Sun Microsystems DF Plug-in for Microsoft ffice wont usher in an era of universal document interoperability but eWEEK Labs believes it is the best option currently available for adding pen Document Format support to ffices massive installed base. The plug-in which Sun debuted on July 4 in the form of a freely downloadable 30MB installation package enables users to read edit and save DF-formatted word processor spreadsheet and presentation documents using the 2000 XP and 2003 versions of Microsoft ffice. Also in contrast to the Microsoft-sponsored translator which was developed from scratch and uses XSLT a language for transforming XML documents into other XML documents Suns plug-in is backed by proven document conversion code from penffice. However file conversion with Suns DF plug-in works differently than in penffice. org as the plug-ins import and export filters work with ffices built-in text converter to get the job done yielding slightly different results than when I used penffice.

The Quick ffice suite and Adobe software lets you create edit and read Word and spreadsheet documents or email attachments plus view PowerPoint and PDFs. n paper the built-in Business Card Scanner is a convenient business tool taking the hassle out of inputting contacts. Unfortunately in reality it’s a bit of a disjointing affair. After firing up the app you basically take a snap of a business card letting it cleverly process the onscreen info (this takes around 15 seconds) then you’ll be presented with a complete filled out contact. The picture needs to be taken under good lightning and shot in focus to get results but even with the right conditions it continually misread info left phones numbers off and even got some fields mixed up.
