It extracts allparagraphs from the WordExtractor and then iteratively displays each paragraphto the standard output. The output is free of all markup such as document style underliningbolding and so forth. I tested this program by parsing my Java Reference Guideupdate (in its raw Word format) from last week (the PI PowerPoint update) andit displayed the following output abbreviated:Word Document has 140 paragraphs(c)Jakarta PI(d)Microsoft PowerPoint DocumentsHaving taught dozens of classes and given hundreds of presentations Microsoft PowerPoint has become one of my trusty companions. (A quick search of my local documents revealed over 300 PowerPoint presentations. ) And while I might not feel the need to compose a slide presentation without Microsoft PowerPoint the opportunity to read my PowerPoint presentations and search for content from within a Java application is very appealing.

“We find that a lot of our students are in the era of being technological learners” said Jack Byrd director of technology for Fort Wayne Community Schools. “They’re used to having a computer on their cell phone going plus a video game going. ”Mann’s students are also accustomed to creating presentations on the computer with the Microsoft PowerPoint program. Many companies will provide training for employees looking to learn this type of computer program but Mann said her students just fiddle around and figure out how to use it on their own. “You just tell them to do stuff and they figure it out” Mann said. The growth and accessibility of the Internet and technology have drastically changed what goes on in the classroom educators say which allows teachers to explore a variety of different instruction methods.
