Microsoft takes them seriously enough for Bill’s boys to havelaunched in the past week or so a lawsuit against Sun Microsystemsdevelopers of pen ffice alleging patent infringement. In the end of course as the music industry is finallyrealising lawyers are only partly useful in the globally connectedworld. Much better to work with the market than try to throw itinto the slammer which only makes everyone grumpy.

us Microsoft has announced a collaboration with the Beihang University (Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics) to create an open source translator project between China's Unified ffice Format (UF) and the Ecma pen XML File Formats. The company has also announced the beta release of translation tools for Windows XP and the 2003 and 2007 versions of Microsoft ffice Excel and Microsoft ffice PowerPoint as part of the pen XML Translator project which was launched in July 2006. Microsoft plans to develop and license the UF translation tools as open source software and ultimately make them available as free downloadable add-ins for Microsoft ffice Word 2003 and 2007 customers from SourceForge. These tools will also be available for use with other individual and commercial projects across the industry. Microsoft believes the tools will benefit Microsoft ffice customers in China who need to work with the UF standard.

However the P526 seems to be missing 3G or HSDPA support (but it does have EDGE) and apparently no WiFi either. n the upside the Asus P526 comes bundled with a generous list of applications including Asus Remote Presenter (for using the P526 as a remote control for PowerPoint presentations) Meeting Planner and Asus My Secret (for storing passwords).
