Don’t pay for souped-up processors. You might be surprised at how little processing power you need for the day-to-day stuff. Most two-year old machines have more than enough horsepower for any document spreadsheet or Powerpoint you might throw at them. The fanciest newest processors have higher speed but it doesn’t always translate into higher productivity — 1. 8 Ghz is usually plenty. Don’t overspend on storage. Laptop hard drives offer plenty of gigabytes per dollar… Before you buy though you might look at the suite from penffice. org and the Thunderbird mailer. They offer the same functionality as a $650 Microsoft platform — free and fully compatible. Sony’s (SNE) VAI and Apple (AAPL) products are out of this price range. ther players such as Acer and Asus are fairly new to branded laptops and I believe they’re a wait-and-see. Now here are some tips for shopping.

By default the Start menu includes the Microsoft Explorer Web browser utlook Express for e-mail a folder synchronizer called Always Synch and a few other programs. It also holds programs the user downloads. If you are plugged in to a computer running Microsoft ffice you can also call up PowerPoint Excel etc. from the Store ‘n’ Go menu. These programs will run completely on Verbatim’s hard drive not affecting anything on the host computer while escaping anything on that machine that might affect the Store ‘n’ Go’s own software and data banks. Plug it in and fire up a Web browser icon in the Store ‘n’ Go Start menu and all the histories of Web pages visited all of the passwords given and all of the search words used will be confined to the removable drive.
